Right now i have a gallon of Toluene that is still in the metal paint can i got it in. My thoughts are to either leave it in there, or put it in a 1
gallon HDPE bottle , or a 1 gallon wine glass bottle. any thoughts?

I see no reason to move it.

I use a toluene based thinners when I work on vehicles............
If the can is around a long time I notice the thinners turns a dirty rusty colour...............
There are other solvents mixed in there but I would be of the opinion that any where except the can would be good

I usually leave solvents in the can until I get a chance to purify them. I figure why put dirty solvents into nice bottles. I don't use toluene that
much, so I probably won't purify an entire gallon of toluene at once, but I have been meaning to prepare 100 mL or so of nice, dry, thiophene-free
toluene for a while now....

If I could I would put all my toluene in a different container for convenience sake. It is practically impossible to pour some toluene out of those
metal cans without spilling it everywhere.
