calcium acetate and sodium sulfate reaction

I would just know what would happen if you mix these two... wouldnt it just make calcium sulfate and sodium acetate? if it does, why when i filtered it, the filtered soultion has a strong suffocating odor, thats NOT acetic acid at all.
