pH of colored solution


Any suggestions how to take the pH of colored solutions? I don't want to use the pH meter because it might gum up the electrode and pH papers are giving strange colors that aren't on the chart.

Titrate the mixture and calculate the pH using pH = -log[H<sup>+</sup>]?

If you only need a ball-park range.

Dilute it until the solution is relatively clear. Test the pH with pH papers and adjust due to the dilution.
