Why is Aluminum in groep 13 and not in 3 in periodic table ?
The properties of Al are more similar to scandium, yttrium and the rare earths, rather than the 'poor metals' gallium, indium and thallium.
So why is it placed on top of the column of the latter three metals ?

Because it's a p block element.
Please remember: "Filtrate" is not a verb.

We don’t organize the periodic table by elements that seem similar in appearance, we organize them by atomic number and valence electrons.

Aluminium is very similar to gallium, more so than yttrium, scandium and the elements you list.

the chemistries of scandium compounds are quite different than those of aluminum. Compounds like aluminum trichloride are much more molecular than
ionic. Scandium has no such counterpart

other metals. Along with having covalent, strongly Lewis acidic halides, there’s also the similarity of borohydride/aluminum hydride.
