Reduction of an alcoholic solution of chloroform by zink and hydrochloric acid to yield DCM ?

will this actually work?
DCM is banned here and cant be obtained.
chloroform is available in big quantities for cheap.

reduction of an alcoholic solution of chloroform by zink and hydrochloric acid

setup simple distillation, with
zink +chloroform + ethanol in flask

CHCl3 + Zn + 2 HCl → CH2Cl2 + ZnCl2 + HCl
1 mol Chloroform + 1 mol ZN + 2mol HCL

add 37% HCL in small portions, heat is generated which causes Chloroform and DCM to
distill over.
once no more distillate comes over add HCL again and heat till we reach the BP of ethanol then
stop.

contents in receiving flask is washed dried and redistilled multiple times. 20% yield of DCM on chloroform.
Chloroform Boiling point: 61.2 °C
DCM Boiling point: 39.6 °C

is there any way to increase yield with this method?

DCM can also be prepared by reducing chloroform with hydrochloric acid and zinc metal in ethanol.
CHCl3 + Zn + 2 HCl → CH2Cl2 + ZnCl2 + HCl

source here claims a 20% yield on the chloroform used
