Is there any risk for side reactions in a UV irradiated solution using a phase transfer catalyst?


If a halogen-based molecule is excited by UV, and a PTC (CTAB/TBAB/TBAI) is present, is there any chance the PTC will be disturbed by the UV light, and react? Or is this not a problem due to the negative charge of the halide on the PTC?

I don't imagine it would be a problem since UV reactions have taken place with various salts such as NaCl or NaBr and those don't seem to react adversely, but I also have not been able to find much information on this. The UV light excites the halide molecule. Are the anions on quats, or sodium salts, immune, or less effected by this light, as compared to an alkyl or aryl halide?

UV radiation affects bonds, not atoms.
