Dimethylation of terminal amines

In a talk of Klute and someone else about N-methylation (which I couldn't find anymore, unfortunately), it was said as an unnoticed sidenote, that Trimethylphosphate can be used as a mild methylating agent, which stops the methylation before the quaternary ammonium salt.

Does anyone know more about it?

In addition any other process of dimethylating an amino-alkane would be nice to know. Actually I used the forums search function a lot, but in all talks I read, a solution was still missing.
