Rotary evaporator
Hello,
Can you add a vigreux column to a rotovap set up and do a fractionate distillation?A rotovap looks like a regular distillation set up except the
evaporating flask is rotate so i guess it could be possible but i heard you cant use it to purify a liquid.

If you very accurately controlled the temp. of the water bath you could distill something.
But where would you put the vigreux column?

I think you will run into significant issues attatching a decently sized vigreux as it would snap.
Would this be done under vacuum like a usual rotovap?

I would put it above the evaporating flask but not on the same side(i would rest the receiving flask on a stand) or vertically below the condenser.
I would use a vacuum and a thermometer too.

No, no, no and no. Rotavap is for removing volatile solvents, if you would like to do a distillation, than do it properly.

Alternatively... If you have a rotovap and you don't want to get more glassware and it can be put on a steep angle you could make it work without the
roto, and evap; using it just as a distillation setup(1). But if you have a rotovap you should be able to get the rest of a vacuum fractionating
setup.
(1) I highly don't recommend it though.

In a few minutes of looking, the same unit is 899.00 USD on Ebay. The next price point seems to be $2,000.00, and up.
That said, I did find one sans glass for $199.99 plus 70.00 shipping... (used)
