Oxygen vs H2O2
my O2 gas bottle arrived a today, it`s Medical Oxygen with a purity of 99.5% O2.
can Bubbling O2 gas through a liquid be a replacement for the use of H2O2 in some synths?
I really have no idea about the whole dynamics of H2O2s use and or Action.

Maybe with a catalyst. O2 takes quite a few eV to break, whereas H2O2 (and other oxidizers and peroxides) are right there, throughout the solution.
Probably some fenton-ness with Fe ions would help.
For instance, break O2 <--> 2 O: (atomic oxygen/oxide radicals). In water, this forms H2O + O: = 2OH. (hydroxyl radicals), or OH- + O: = HOO-
(peroxide?), or superoxide (OO.-), etc.

The use of O2 instead of H2O2 is not succesful in most cases. Although O2 is a strong oxidizer, it is quite inert at room temperature. Only few
compounds readily react with O2 (such as hydroquinone at high pH), but many compounds only react at high temperature (combustion).

ok, thanks both
I`m sure I`ll find some interesting things to do with this O2 eventually, although I`m fairly sure it should work in the HCl / Copper reaction much
better than just Air alone.
I`ll have to stick to my original use for it as a Supplement to my air pump in the Combustion vessel when I get a Y splitter.
Thanks again.

Somehow converting it to singlet oxygen would make it a lot more reactive I think.

Dioxygen activation is one of the many wonders of nature.
Some man made catalysts can bind to O2 and make it more reactive like Co(salen).

All I know is that if you've had a rough day of exericse, taking a few hits off of the oxygen tube will give you this really weird rush of energy and
"good feeling". Too much of that oxygen will give you a headache and a hangover type feeling.

yeah, I`ve been reading up about that all morning, and 1,4-Benzoquinone seems a very interesting reagent, it`s dehydrogenation properties are an
interesting read too.
and from its material properties it shouldn`t be too hard to work out if the stuff has formed or not "A Gold Powder"
although being a cytotoxin, I think extreme care must be taken to avoid contact with it.
I`ll get back to my reading now and see what it says about the Catechol version, probably 1,2-Benzoquinone would be a safe bet
thanks for that!
