Granite mortar and pestle question
I filled out a argos slip wrong, instead of a nice marble one, i got an expensive Granite one!!!
I hate these type! Do they ever get smooth in the bowl after some use? Or am i doomed to sand like crud every time i grind something in it?
At the moment its really rough inside and produces sand like particles every time i grind something

According to my wife, a granite mortar and pestle will always grind finely but never as fine as ceramic or marble - which stains easily.

@Sulaiman
If you have never followed a Mridula Baljekar recipe, you have never lived.
ISBN 0-09-180975-4
Her book was the first i ever found where balti style cooking was done from the ground up.
All the rest relied on 'rogan josh paste' in a jar as 1 ingredient.
Her Rogan Josh recipe is superb, every time, as are all of the recipes in that book.
One of my favourites is "Basic Rice" which starts with butter, onion, cardamom pods, cloves, cinnamon, and basmati rice.

No, some mortar & pestle are finely finished but most require a little use to wear them in.
Yes, even though very slowly, mortar & pestle do wear, so theoretically there must always be a tiny bit of granite in the food, but it is
un-noticeable.
Aga, I can't cook, but luckily my wife was owner/operator of a Cafe speciallising in international cuisine, so I just do useless stuff like hobbies
