Microwave Chemistry !
Yesterday i found a Microwave Oven in the bins.
(yep, aga-bin-raidin')
All that was missing was the glass turntable plate !
That must have been why they threw it out - the rest all works fine, and i already had a pyrex flan tray that fits perfectly !

Found one myself in pretty similar (ish) circumstances and would love to hear of practical attempts at modification to take a RBF of appropriate size
and condenser Its more the latter that I find the earliest or most likely break in potential for serious eye damage and worse things than eyes being
cooked.
Also, wouldn't it require the custom fabrication of a new resonant cavity> because nigh every lab MW oven intended for chemistry labs seems to be
mono-mode in operation.

Hilarious. These guys are the new King of Random in my opinion; and without the obnoxious commercialisation. I just watched charging a mobile phone
using induced current from overhead power lines. There is lots of similar stuff there as well.

I once heard those microwave waves can burn your retina?
If this is not the case, and it feels just like heat (can someone confirm) I have a very interesting use for that old microwave in my shed

They actually have used large microwave transmitters for crowd-control purposes similar to how they use tear gas. Apparently it produces burning
sensations in your skin, but without actually doing significant damage. Microwaves would have a hard time reaching your retina through your ocular
fluid, in any case. You may be thinking of the sparks from arc welders, which can release high-energy UV, which CAN damage your retina.

I would first get a microwave leak detector
e.g. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Microwave-Leak-Detector-3MHz-3GHz-...
then test it,
then mess with the microwave oven,
but the best is to use as intended,
kW microwaves scare me (I've worked from nW to 320 MW peak)

No need to test - they All leak quite a lot anyway.
Did a few tests last summer, and not even one microwave oven tested was 'properly' sealed.
Best to be away from the thing when it's running, but then you can't see what's going on.
Much safer to do nothing at all, ever, but where's the fun in that ?

Does anyone know if an old mig welder transformer would destroy a average magnetron? Naturally you'd have to reverse the primary and secondary coil
for HV. I don't have the MIG's specs ATM but it's definitely at or below average watts.
Point is I'm starving and I need this frozen turkey cooked in 25 minutes tops(:
Also a directional microwave gun would be a trip. sucks it's not possible to focus long distances, at least for amateurs. Think wire mesh is
equivalent to a mirror for those frequencies, construct into a maser obviously.
