Extraction of nitroglycerine from Nitrocellulose smokeless powder
Hi,
I was just wondering would it be possible to extract the NG from the smokeless powder found in firearm cartridges. I have included an MSDS of some
Winchester smokeless powder, and to make things more simple assume the NG is in the highest % on the MSDS.
Thanks DDT

Yes, it is possible, but time consuming and impractical. It would also be dangerous for larger quantities.

I think you could use benzene or another organic solvent which dissolves the nitroglycerine and leaves the NC behind. Then you could evaporate the
benzene to reclaim the nitroglycerine.

Yes, I understand the risk and that it is impractical to do it that way. I was just curious to find out if it is possible, but thank you for your help
