Custom ether
Hi
so i was wondering
if we mix boric acid with isopropyl alcohol
in presence of sulfuric acid and we distille the result to get some pretty good purity triisopropyl borate, and we react with powdered sodium
ethoxide should we get ethyl isopropyl ether and sodium borate ?

Hi
I would try to react Aluminium Isopropoxide with Bromoethane as this method would not use sodium metal for the etoxide, Also Aluminium Isopropoxide is
easy to produce using a mercury catalyst

Is isopropyl borate volatile?
Edit; is boric acid soluble in IPA?
Edit 2 can you react sodium etoxide and isopropyl borate without blowing your flask through the wall?

I think the reaction would initially form this tetrahedral anion:

I don't think it would react further, forming your desired ether. You might get exchange of the alkoxy groups, though.
