Singapore police investigating someone here?
I was checking an older email account that I used to use as contact for this site and noticed this message buried among the general buildup. It was
sent many months ago. It did not contain any obvious malware or otherwise appear to be a phishing or spam message, but neither was I able to find any
information about this sender online. I don't know what they were investigating, but Singapore appears to be a real shit-hole when it comes to
personal freedoms, so I figure it's worth noting this email in public as well as ignoring its sender. I know we have some members from Singapore here.
If you're living in Singapore doing something contrary to one of Singapore's laws and you haven't already been busted for it, now may be a good time
to consider backing off.

I wonder what those singapore members did to cause the police to send that email.
The email is rather strange... You would think that the police would be a little more specific, like what laws those members are breaking. Second
off the email was on the engrish side. If they need your help so badly the police could at least write a more formal email, include
threats/intimidation and incentive to turn in the criminals...

It is indeed fake. Had a rough sketch of the same email sent to me about a post thats on my forum, which is quite fake as there is only one post on my
forum, which is by me. And I'm in the UK..
Fishing if you ask me. I can send email to you for ref if you so require. But it's trash mate.

On the one hand, it did seem vague and phony. On the other hand, it didn't seem like the usual spam or phishing and I've never been emailed by
Singapore police before so I didn't have much to compare with. I presume that a law enforcement agency with an actual cause can simply obtain a
warrant and get copies of all site data straight from the host. Remember to encrypt your U2U messages if you want to be really sure nobody but the
intended recipient will read them.

You really don't need to worry of this matter even if this email is really from Singapore police....as it is evident that the discussion on this board
is for the cause of curiosity and knowdelge and not for anything which can cause public nuisance, anybody misusing the information available on this
board will be himself/herself be responsible for the conseqences.

The e-mail sounds bogus. It seems to me that any legitimate communications would
have made to Interpol or the FBI instead of you directly. In that case I'm sure the Feds
would be knocking(or breaking down) your door for a major Q & A session. I wouldn't worry
about it unless the Feds show up. Unless that happens, I'd consider it to be a prank.
Please let us know if it turns out otherwise.

It's a sort of "reverse-phishing" wherein you contact the police and they (not knowing about you) develop an interest when you make contact. The more
you try, the more interest they have. Singapore most likly is very hooked up with Commonwealth police agencies and Interpol....after all, think of all
that gum chewing they have to cope with....!!!

You can be certain that if this was an authentic official enquiry
it would have been forwarded through interpol and your ISP
would have been queried as to your location as well as ICANN.
Unless there is prior agreement and understanding to do so all
police matters are done on hardcopy mail.
