Rongalite
Hello, I want to ask something all.
Now, ı would like to synthesize rongalit also named sodium formaldehyde sulfoxylate from reaction of sodium dithionite and formaldehyde. I did
experiment in water as solvent but this couldn't crystallize, and also normally, when this synthesis is done, there are two product, first is
OHCH2SO2Na this is rongalite, and second product is OHCH2SO3Na which has one more oxygen than rongalite. I have to seperate these. How can ı do this?
Rongalite decomposes in acidic conditions, medium has to be alkali. And I want to convert second product to first one maybe by reducting this. If you
help, ı will be appreciated. Thanks..

To crystallize product you should use exsiccator (easy to make with NaOH)
