2,4dinitrophenylhydrazine sensitivity & stability
Recently a few bottles of extremely old 2,4dinitrophenylhydrazine came into my posession. There's no sign of water in them, and several MSDSs state
that in this state it's a shock and friction sensitive explosive.
I doubt there was ever water in these containers, but I still feel a bit uneasy about opening them. Do you have any first hand experience regarding
the sensitivity and storage stability of this compound?

2,4-dinitrophenyl hydrazine is pretty stable both against decomposition over time and handling sensitivity. Its quite safe to store it dry and unless
you are planning to transport it or play football with the jar. The only precautionary note would be to be careful not to get the material onto the
jar threads and under the cap. My experience with both this compound and picric acid is that you get more crap on the cap threads if you store it wet
and its then harder to remove too.
