Hydrolysis of Nylon 6,6 to obtain Putrescine
Hi
i have been thinking some way of making Putrescine
and i remembered that it is used in making Nylon 6,6
So i have been searching some data about Nylon
http://www.polymerprocessing.com/polymers/PA66.html
here its say its 226.32 g/mol
from that info we know how much is a moles of Nylon
what if we mix it with 1 moles of sodium hydroxide (80 gram)
with some water could we hydrolise it back to Sodium adipate and Putrescine ?
with maybe the help of some other solvent

It's nylon 4,6 that incorporates putrescine, and you'll want acid hydrolysis. 6,6 uses hexamethylenediamine.

Yes, using acid hydrolysis won't immediately produce the amine (rather the salt), so you can isolate it when you actually want to release the stench.
Fear is what you get when caution wasn't enough.

Yes. Nylon 4-n will yield putrescine, nylon 5-n will yield cadaverine, and 6-n will yield hexamethylenediamine. All pretty stinky. You may not be able
to find anything less than 6-6 though.

Thank reminding me this Etaoin Shrdlu
Now the question is where we can find Nylon-4,6
in't that a nylon that is less used than other type.

Hexamethylenediamine isn't very stinky. It's a solid at room temperature with a peppery ammoniacal smell.
