ephedrine extraction from ephedra plan
hi just posting this here and hoping to get some feedback as this is my plan of attack, i want to extract the active alkaloids out of ephedra sinica
plant, im not interested in seperating ephedrine from pseudo-ephedrine or anything like that but want nice white crystals as the end product
heres what i was going to do feel free to add any changes that might be needed if you can see any
-1kg powdered ephedra is mixed with 4L of dh20
-10% solution of .hcl is added until the ph= 1-2
-broth is simmered for 45 minutes
-this step is repeated 2 more times and all the water/acid collections are added into a stainless steel pot
-reduce volume of water by evaporating until about 4-5L remains
-10% ammonia solution added until ph 13-14
-whole lot is distilled, first 2L is collected made ph6 by 37%hcl
-last 1L portions are collected same way first 2L was and made ph6 by 37%hcl
-all 3 collections are allowed to sit and evaporate to get clean crystals of ephedrine
alternatevely instead of distilling you could extract with xylene, and then ph6 and let stand to get crystals
reading all of this is there any mistake i have made along the way that would hinder results??

also the only reason i plan on distilling 2L, then 1L, then another 1L is to see how much ephedrine comes over in the last 2 portions and if its even
worth doing it

There is Plenty of info on Utube on the process.
Distillation is not the method of choice. Treat it like any other acid / base plant extraction.
They tried to have me "put to sleep" so I came back to return the favor.
