Ammonium Acetate Q's
I have a bottle of ACS grade Ammonium Acetate, and know that it is very Hygroscopic and will degrade to Acetamide. When it was first cracked it
smelled more of Acetic Acid, the bottle has been stored away from light but was in an area where temps hover in the 65-68 F. and smells alot more of
Ammonia. Am I wrong to assume that it is degrading?
What can I do to prevent it from degrading and will it actually give off Ammonia and turn to Acetamide in the bottle at these temps?

Ammonium acetate disassociates at room temperature.
It will give off ammonia. That's what it does.
Best to store it in a deep freeze to reduce ammonia loss.

what about treating it with GAA, will this at least slow down the rate at which it disassociates?
Also at which point do you know that NH4(OAc) is no longer good?
Handling, storing, disposing and preserving my chemicals is important.
