Special Order Chemicals - November

All,

It's that time again to suggest additional chemicals for November. Please let me know if there are any you'd like me to look into. I expect that I will accept special orders until November 30th.

BTW, I think the program is working pretty well. It's a little more work than I had anticipated, trying to manage products, pricing, and shipping regulations. Hopefully, you are happy with the way it's gone. Please let me know if you would like some changes, e.g., more frequent, less frequent, more choices, etc., Your thoughts?

Also, please note that Elemental Scientific does sell more than just chemicals. We stock glassware, hardware and equipment (new & used). Let us know what you are looking for and we'll see if we can find it for you.

Tom

I'm glad to know this is working out for you so well. I was a little worried special orders would be overwhelming.

I am looking for right now:

1,3 propanediol
maleic acid
pentaerythritol
iodobenzoic acid
oxone
sodium chlorite
cobalt hydroxide

If by Oxone you mean potassium peroxymonosulfate, I got mine at a pool shop as a non-chlorine oxidizer. The MSDS lists 100% DuPont Oxone.

I do. The closest pool supply shop I know of is well out of my way, and my local WalMart stopped carrying it for one reason or another. Spending a bunch of time and gas searching further would probably leave me out worse than just supporting Elemental.

What brand do you have that's 100% Oxone? I might just buy it off Amazon if there's no point in Tom sourcing it, but I know a bunch of them have fillers and I don't want to bother with purification.

OK. I'll be working on these and adding them to the website over the next couple of days. Check them out here: special orders

I should also add that we're getting a very good response from our Canadian neighbors. I've been able to ship most everything to them via ground. Our website doesn't calculate shipping to Canada properly, so it works best if you complete your order and choose "In-Store Pickup". I will then calculate shipping costs, including Duties and Customs fees, and send a Paypal request for those costs. It works...

Huh. Thanks. I had been under the impression everyone was listing "inerts" because they added buffering agents or something.

I think some magnesium carbonate may be added to de-acidify. It's so cheap compared to permanganate that using extra, and sometimes with acid, does not matter much.

Perhaps in a ratio like this, which hypothetically makes it 22% MgCO3:

2 K5H3S4O18 + 3 MgCO3 = 5 K2SO4 + 3 MgSO4 + 3 CO2 + 3 H2O + 2 O2

I wouldn't be surprised if there were formulations like that. It looks like DuPont might put it in for anti-caking (or some other reason I can't think of) since it's only 2% on their MSDS.

New Chemicals Added

Hi All,

I have added all of the requested chemicals, so take a look to see if the chemicals you want are there. If not, let me know soon and I'll see if I can add them for you.

Cyclohexanone

Just wanted to mention that I added cyclohexanone as a special order chemical - 500 ml and 1 L sizes available.

Also, I purchase from my suppliers throughout the month, so if you place your special order early in the month, there is a good chance that I will be able to piggyback your order onto another order and you will not have to wait until the end of the month to get your special order. It doesn't always work out, but most often, it does.

I would also like 1L cyclohexanone and a gallon of cyclohexane. Can you obtain cyclohexene as well; reasonably? I would like some K-formate too... please let me know via p2p. I'll give you my postal code for shipping costs. Thanks! BTW I have a gallon of cyclohexanol and would happily sell a liter. Make me an offer. Anyone. (I don't want to oxidize the alcohol to the ketone if I can get the ketone; I don't enjoy simple conversions so much.)

I am currently looking for some: Fluoren-9-one, 2-Naphthalenethiol, Hydrazine hydrate, and Iodobenzene Diacetate.
Would any of these be source-able?

Hi Tom Holm,
A while back you sent out an email telling us to watch for details of a coming Black Friday sale. I haven't seen anything further about it. I hope it isn't a literal BF sale, i.e., on Black Friday only, because I do my ordering through my work computer and I won't be at work on BF.

Hi Tom,

How feasible would it be to source around 100 g of potassium t-butoxide?
