Nanshin Rxn kettle: opinions needed

I can't say I'm proud of this but I need some advice.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/5000ML-3-neck-Reaction-Flask-Separat...
I have been eyeballing a kettle( reaction vessel with removable top with ST joints, like the infamous ymachtx perchlorate video had) for a lot of reasons with the overall idea of it being my large versatile glass vessel. I contacted the seller( sadly eBay only unless I missed something) and he claims the flat bottomed of the cylindrical rxn vessel can be heated safely with a hot plate. I'm not so concerned with pulling a vacuum on it ( despite his assurances all his glass could take a 1 atm pressure difference) but if the walls are truly 6.5 mm thick ( supposedly his glass is all 3.3 boro) would using a hotplate on , say a 5 liter version , be OK long term? I don't like the idea of using a flat bottomed rxn flask but with storing it and using it( I don't have the means for a US version at this time) it looks like the chnese designed version is what I can do? Advice? opions? warnings? Thank you very much.

Is it just me who thinks 300$ is a bit much for a glorified jam jar?

Ouch! Well played! Yeah... perhaps it IS a bit much when you say it like that. I suppose this isn't my most logical glass pursuits. In my defense at least I wouldn't need a form-fitted mantle for that shape.
