Copper Citrate alkaline solution

I made copper citrate and I noticed that on addition of NaHCO3, copper carbonate doesn't precipitate. What is the reason for this?

I had exactly the same problem when wanting to recover my copper from contaminated copper citrate. I eventually had to decompose it and collect the copper oxide. I think that the citrate forms a complex with the copper.
