5000mL distillation
Hey all,
Cannot find this answer:
Would it be more efficient to use a 5000mL volume distillation set up w/ appropriate heating, over (2) 2000mL volume distillations?
Thanks

Not exactly sure if I'm reading your question right, but two smaller batches would be quicker.

Ok thanks.
I was evaluating the time to distill of a 5L setup versus two 2L setups.
Thanks

depends... do you have 2 setups?
If you have two set ups the 2x2000mL is going to go at less than half the speed of the 1x5000L
There is less area of the 2L set ups, and you are also inputting twice the power - you have two variacs.

I was deciding which route I wanted to take. I already ordered the 2x2000mL since itll be much quicker.
Thanks

Don't forget that, as aforementioned, using two setups will increase your power/electricity consumption and your water consumption if you are using a
mains supply. Also, having two setups running means that you will ultimately have twice the amount of dirty glassware to clean
