triethylamine
I just saw one of SM members' video of triethylamine+conc.HNO3 and thought it was one of the coolest reactions Ive seen in forever.
Anyone know where an individual can purchase this? I saw some on ebay, but looked a bit pricey, and looks like chemical salvage.

Type "A Modified Method for the Production of Triethylamine" into Google search. The science madness PDF has a cool synth I would like to try.
About 5 months ago I saw 250g of the HCl salt go for $15 on Ebay.
Keep your eyes open and good luck.

THanks for the reply. That syth looks like a pain in the ass. If you attempt it let me know how it works for you. Back to lurking for it to pop up
cheap on ebay.

Good Luck
I will get my glassware in a few weeks and try it out soon after.

There is another reaction that may be easier to do. It's the reaction I did with turpentine dumped into nitric acid/permanganate. Nitric acid and
turpentine has been used as a rocket fuel for the French Diamant
rockets which launched satellites. I did the reaction in the open. I have no idea how it would react in a
test tube, so beware if you try it.

TEA is one of the cheapest organic bases on the market, it is not hard go get some... And the TEA.HCl could be also easily turned into "relative pure
and waterfree" TEA.
Just an interesting fact: abs. TEA is distilled from P2O5. Interesting that they distill a base from a strong acid's anhydride
I have a blog where I post my pictures from my work: http://labphoto.tumblr.com/
