storing bromine

I have red a few things on here about troubling bromine,
i have succesfully store bromine in a glass flask with a glass stopper in the freezer, for over 2 mounth now..
Bromine is notorious for escaping rapidely in its liquid form but the solid seems to stay put.

Also i get a fair amount of the element by distilling a mixture of sodium bromide saturated in water with hydrochloric acid and while heat is apply to the boiler 10 percent bleach is dripped into the mixture .

I have not seen or heard of anyone preparing bromine this way . the advantage being this eliminate the needs for bubbling chlorine in NaBr thus reducing the amount of Cl2 disolved in the final Bromine..

I have had this problem also. The bromine or iodine always seems to somehow leak out, collecting on the surrounding area. It is very messy. Best to prepare immediately prior to use, since it can be difficult to store.

Several decades before now, it was not uncommon to store these types of chemicals is sealed glass ampoules. A gas torch would be used to melt open, then later seal again.

To make bromine I usually react NaBr, sodium bisulfate, and H2O2.

There was an identical thread few months ago.
http://www.sciencemadness.org/talk/viewthread.php?tid=15452

All it takes is opening the search window, typing "bromine" and selecting "subject only".

Can a moderator just merge this thread with that one (and also delete this post) ?
