Noob question

Can someone provide me with a link I can read or briefly explain how cheimicals work in the reaction for an exlosive?

I am considering entering into E.O.D after I retire from the military and am trying to learn as much as I can.

I don't have a basic understanding as to how an explosive works ie. why you need an oxidizer for an explosion.

I noticed that aluminum powder is sometime's used for certain explosive's but I do know that aluminum takes a tremendous amount of heat just to melt it.

Sorry about the new guy question.

Thanks in advance,
Sv

Generally, explosives are chemicals that contain high amounts of energy in their bonds. When they break, the energy is released as heat and light. Most explosives release gases which produce a shock wave.
