hotplate top


Yo people. as described above. i looking for some ceramic tiles which is easy tyo buy/find as the top of my diy hotplate. sugestion?

Thy are cheap enough to throw away when they get to dirty
Or you can wash then in dilute acid for a good cleaning.

They are porous too and make a great substrate if you want to use some slip and
adhear nicrome wire to one side as a heating element.

if the hotplate is metal, have you considered instead getting some high temperature enamel and just coating it in the real-deal? because thats all it is, its just some enamel glaze. it might be fluxed so as to melt and set at a lower temperature than what would re-melt it again. you might be able to get this from a pottery store and have them fire it for you as well if the plate cant go hot enough even when insulated.

If i misunderstood and you are using an element to heat tiles directly, once you have some choice, go for nice dense ones. weird stuff happens when stuff is allowed to get really hot while the rate of energy transfer is low.
