Getting rid of chlorine gas
Hey guys,
How can I get rid of chlorine gas?
It isn’t flammable, but is there anything a can mix it with to dispose of it quickly?
Any help appreciated.

Bubble it into an alkaline solution of bisulfite* (or was it thiosulfate?). Chlorine is reduced to chloride, which is easier to dispose of.
Edit: Thiosulfate can also be used. I suppose I should include equations. For bisulfite, Cl2+NaHSO3+3 NaOH→2 NaCl+Na2SO4+2 H2O. For thiosulfate, 4 Cl2+Na2S2O3+10 NaOH→8 NaCl+2 Na2SO4+5 H2O.
*: With an "i", also known as hydrogensulfite, a salt of sulfurous acid. Not to be confused with
bisulfate, with an "a", which is a salt of sulfuric acid. The confusion between bisulfite and bisulfate pops up here occasionally.

Prior to relocating, I always had a 500ml bottle of thiosulphate solution (c1M) handy,
great for neutralising halogens, (squirt in bottle, flask etc.and shake)
and silver nitrate solution
(especially on skin/hands/worksurface before exposure to sunlight)
