Extraction of cobalt salts from lithium ion battery

Recently, a friend of mine extracted cobalt hydroxide from lithium ion battery's!
by adding acetic acid to turn the lithium and cobalt oxides to lithium acetate and cobalt acetate.
Once that was done NaOH solution was added precipitating the cobalt hydroxide then filtering with a coffie filter

But when i did it the solution turned pink
the bottom half of the jar was pink and the top half was a light pink would this procedure actually work? I'm a little skeptical
also something white formed at the bottom.....
can someone help me please!

Alamist recently produced what seemed to be an excellent video on the topic.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gv2pDLab1zI
I have listened to it but did not watch it properly. (I was cooking at the time.) I saved it so I can go back to it and study it in some detail.
I suspect it might have some good answers to your questions or maybe some workarounds.
