Concentrating Acetic acid 5%
So i had a beaker filled with acetic acid and had it react with egg shells (powdered) the reaction toke well over 3 days to complete and i had to
constantly top up the solution with acetic acid that makes me want to get Concentrated acetic acid about 60 or 90 people told me to distill it and to
boil it but in inconclusive, How do i know when to stop boiling it? i have phosphoric acid and sodium acetate cant i just react them and distill the

I have used acetic acid to test the separation power of different distillation setups. it is very difficult to separate by distillation alone. an
entertainer is useful.
To know the degree to which you have purified any compound by distillation, you have to measure the properties of the distillate.
Head temperature is the first and easiest measurement to collect.
Next is density.
These are the easiest non-destructive methods to gauge the progress of your experiment.

Is "vinegar essence" available where you live? It should be way more concentrated than 5%, something like 20-80% depending on the brand. I recommend
searching for vinegar essence first.
Or checking local beekeeper stores, they should have concentrated acetic acid.
Concentrating anything 5% is generally less than rewarding activity.

I really don’t know globally, but here in the states I’m seeing 30% acetic acid everywhere as a “green” replacement for various cleaners.
Personally want some to mix with NaCl to kill some weeds out back. I also would like it for making metal acetates so I can save my glacial acetic
acid for more interesting things. Never know when I’ll have the itch to make benzyl acetate even though I could buy it from perfumery suppliers.

I just bought a gallon of 30% cleaning vinegar at home Depot a couple days ago for 20$. Going to use it to kill weeds in the driveway and around the
fence. The house we're renting normally uses Roundup, but we grow veggies and didn't want that.
The smell off the cap, is about as invasive as cleaning ammonia... Just right up in your brain! Our front yard smelled like vinegar the next morning.
It really does work better on weeds in sunlight.
I could have gotten 40% if I looked around more of wanted to wait for shipping.
Years back I would have killed for that, bc I used numerous gallons of 5% to make calcium acetate for the garden. Soluble calcium will tend to fix
squash blossom rot and failed tomatoes. If your plants start dropping fruit with a rot spot, look into it epsom salt helps too

You can eutectically freeze out your acetic acid to around 65%, although it will be messy with only 5% vinegar, you can still try. Freeze it first to
around -10°C, then filter ice and freeze the filtrate again to around -15°C, then to -20°C. Then at around -26°C there is an eutectic point, and
no further freezing below -26°C will separate water from acid. After this you can extract the remaining 35% water using toluene or benzene azeotrope
- either with dean-stark trap or just by distilling the azeotrope from acid-water mixture. You can concentrate it to anhydrous by doing this.
