Good afternoon!
My right name is Jack Wolfe, hailing from the resplendent banks of the River Mooloolah and, by commodious vicus, just south of a place named Cinnabar!
I’m thrilled to join this delightful chemistry forum and can't wait to get to know all of you fine folks.
My friends often describe me as a hobbit. I’ve always cherished the simple joys of life, from tending my garden to concocting gastronomic delights.
I’m fascinated by how things work, from the vibrant pigments that color our textiles to the surfactants that keep our clothes and dishes clean.
I have a particular love for phytochemistry and the fragrances that make our gardens smell so enchanting. The magical sparkle of elf-fountains,
goblin-barkers, and thunder-claps has always captivated me. And who could forget the art of mycology, brewing, and fermentation, a skill every
halfling appreciates?
I'm looking forward to learning from each of you and perhaps sharing a few wizard-inspired experiments along the way. Thank you for welcoming me into

Hey, we are actually not too far away (relatively speaking). I am a couple of hours inland from Brisbane.
Welcome to the board. I am sure you will enjoy yourself here.
In terms of the chemistry you are into... is it more extractions or synthesis? Apart from a few ester synths, I don't think we have seen much deep
discussion on plant fragrances recently.

Well, Hello!
It's mostly extractions at this stage. I have collected a bunch of literature about the synthesis of aromatics used in perfumery over the years and am
slowly gathering what I need to put some of it into practise.
And, yes, you're quite right, there's not a lot of discussion about it anywhere to be honest. Scent is such a fleeting and temporal thing and seems to
be dismissed as 'arty'. And for those that do, it's all very "secret formula" stuff reserved for French fragrance houses and such, which I think is a
useless attitude and the antithesis of shared learning.

Hello, and welcome to the forum!
I suppose, based on your own words, that you have been visiting the forum for a whileNote. Here are some important tips:
We have a Library. Old books, but good old books. They will either answer your questions or send you down a rabbit hole and you will forget the
answers for which you were looking.
LaTeX works, or at least the basic mathematical commands. You must sandwich the code between two pairs of $. As in (ignore the punctuation)
which gives
$$H_2O.$$
Speaking of codes, the FAQ has a list of bbcodes that work here.
As you might have noticed, we have two FAQs: one for the Discussion Board (https://www.sciencemadness.org/whisper/faq.php) and one for the web site itself (https://www.sciencemadness.org/madscifaq.html). The former is the basic every member should know. The latter is, um, also the basic every member
should know. Different functions, but equally important.
Again, welcome to the forum.
Note: otherwise, it wouldn't make much sense in joining a forum you never knew. Oh, well.

Welcome to the forum, nice to see another Australian on the board.
You get some really nice native orchids and other nice smelling forbs in Central Qld. You might get Proiphys cunninghamii (Moreton Bay lily) in your
area. No idea about plant extractions though sorry or what makes a plant/compound suitable for extraction.

The four points you mention are, in fact, four of the reasons why I requested registration to this forum. They are an absolute trove.
And to you, B(a)P. 
Despite me hating the endless summers in this environment (aren't heat pumps just wonderful?!), I take recourse in the joy and vigour my orchids
display.
I am yet to have the privilege of meeting Proiphys cunninghamii. Is there anything besides it's rarity and lemon scent that you thought about
when mentioning it?

Only that I have seen it when camping and hiking in Central Qld, then hearing your interests made me think of it.
