Devardas alloy making.
Im thinking to make Devardas alloy.
Devarda's alloy (CAS # 8049-11-4) is an alloy of aluminium (44% – 46%), copper (49% – 51%) and zinc (4% – 6%).
Never melted nothing more than lead...
There is no procedure I could find, but checked the melting points of materials:
Aluminium 660°C
Copper 1085°C
Zinc 420°C
It seem that the procedure is to melt the higher melting point metal, then add the rest.
but getting 1100°C is difficult for me (I was thinking of tin can (or SS can) + charcoal + air blowing in a barbacue)
but also read that the melting point of :
Aluminum-Copper Alloy 548 °C
Could I melt aluminium and then add the copper? Or will they not alloy themselves? (like the copper will float on aluminium?)
Thanks

If you melt the other two, then the copper should dissolve in the mixture. Copper won't float on aluminum- it's far more dense.
Please remember: "Filtrate" is not a verb.

Mix everything together and heat it. Melting point of Devarda's alloy is 490-560 °C, so your mix will melt way before of melting point of copper. You
can't even heat it to such high temperatures, because you would boil off zinc from alloy. Zinc melt first, this will help mix it properly with
aluminium and copper.
