While this is a great step, it unfortunately only works to solve part of the problem.
As described in the article the decarboxylation process they developed is not effective at destroying sulphonic acids, which includes
perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) and its precursors. PFOS is generally considered to be the more toxic of the PFAS compounds from both a human
health and ecological perspective.
