How to measure the inner diameter of a circle?

I tried measuring the inner diameter of a bottle with a dollar store measuring tape in mm.

My measurements varied because I couldn't line the tape up perfectly centered.

Is there a caliper for this?

How does one use it?

You want a vernier caliper. They range from cheap and cheerful plastic ones for a few bucks to expensive stainless steel ones with digital readouts.
