Heteropolymetalates

Hello! I started making different Heteropolymetalates.

Today I made ammonium 12-molybdatecerate(IV) - (NH4)8CeMo12O42*8H2O. According to the methodology it is prepared as follows. However I did three times as much.

Add 7g of Ceric ammonium nitrate in 140ml water. add 30g of ammonium heptamolybdate tetrahydrate in 100ml watar. stirring is required. When the solution is mixed, a yellow precipitate is released.

Ammonium 6-molybdochromate(III) - (NH4)3[CrMo6O24H6] •nH2O. n= 4-7.

Dissolve 12 g of NH4Cr(SO4)2 •12H2O in 50ml H2O. Add 30 g ammonium heptamolybdate tetrahydrate in 110ml water. The solution will have a green color. It is necessary to add sulfuric acid until pH=4.5. A precipitate will then form which will have a purple color

Ammonium 6-molybdonickelate(II) - (NH4)4[NiMo6O24H6]•5H2O

Dissolve 22g of ammonium heptamolybdate tetrahydrate in 200 ml water and 2.6 g of nickel sulfate hexahydrate in 150 ml water. Mix the solutions and boil for 10 minutes.

Hi Vano!

Hexamolybdatonickelate is labile at temperatures higher than 60 °C. Let it precipitate at room temperature, you will get light blue solid.

Solubility of heteropolymolybdates is much higher in hot water, it is better to cool down solution in the fridge. More precipitate will crush out.

Hello and thanks! I didn't know that fact about Hexamolybdatonickelate, i just made it according old soviet book. I also made Silver phosphovanadate. Brown-black compound. When it dries I will post photos.

Btw. tungstates can stabilize metal ions in high oxidation state (Mn(IV), Co(III), Ni(III), Pr(IV) etc.). Maybe molybdates can do the same? I don't know, never read about it, but I once made some solution containing Co(III) in excess of molybdate.

There is also nickel(IV) heteropolymetalate in my book. I will try to get it in the near future.

Beautiful! I especially like the Co(III) one. I haven't seen a green cobalt compound before as far as I can remember. Do you have any further experiments in mind for these products, or are you just making them all for your collection?

I haven't read anything specifically about the use of this compound, but if I see any information and am interested, I will try it. This time I just made it for my collection, I think when I make many other heteropolymetalates I will start to study their properties.
