Question perhaps that cannot be answered regarding the http site vs https
So when i type 'sciencemadness' into a search engine, i use netscape navigator (that was a joke) i get a response that always links me to the for ums
http site. I t h en click the little ho u se symbol go back to the menu o p tion the https site and away i go.
Always infuriated me that search engines never appear to learn that this what im after.5
Why does it always link to the less secure platform?

I think its because the search engines assume you need a login to access HTTPS areas and don't bother searching them for keywords.
But that's speculation.

Use HTTPS Everywhere browser extension, set 'Encrypt all Sites Eligible' setting to ON and you will always be redirected to the HTTPS version of a
HTTP page..... That's if one exists for that page.... And they do for this site.
Away you go.

Actually the reason I think is that for some reason the http link is /talk, but the https link is /whisper. There is no redirect. To a search engine,
.../whisper/viewthread.php?tid=156208 is a different entity to .../talk/viewthread.php?tid=156208. So the link you get is just whatever they happened
to crawl.
I don't think it makes any sense to have this different URL structure, but it is what it is.

Thats a great trick....thanks.
Now if i could just get MS edge to default to google as search engine ill be happy lol. They have clear instructions on how to do it, but after the
47th page of following the instructions the browser has updates, and the new version has published with it a completely different 867page set of
instructions.
Ok thats a joke but it is amusing how difficult MS has made it in Edge to change the default search engine away from fucking bing. I have no reason to
loath bing other than its name though. Anyone have an informed opinion on browser effacy?
A real further question though, i used to check the validity of a tor/onion network by simply typing google.com and ensuring it defaulted to somewhere
other than google.com.au (as im in australia). Is this reasonable?

Regarding Edge - I don't see anything hard to find
copy this into address bar
edge://settings/search?search=search
and select the option that you want to use
you can even add more search engines
