Firearms design

I have decided to design my own 9mm gun.
I'm interested to know how the peak chamber pressure
depends on things like the type of primer, amount of
empty space in the cartridge etc.

I plan to use commercial smokeless powder and I already
found plenty of reloading tables but I'd like to know more
of the theory behind it. Any references would be appreciated.

Thanks

I doubt there are many here who would help you design a weapon!

Highly illegal in most jurisdictions unless you are a qualified gunsmith and you have access to a proofing house, etc.
Governments, even ones like the USA that have a liberal attitude to firearm possession, tend to get the willies at the idea of people building their own.
It is just like alcohol, most places it is legal to make your own home made beer, wine, cider, etc for personal consumption, but the sale of the drink or distillation to make spirits is verboten without a lot of paper work and tight regulation.

gregxy,

This is an interesting engineering problem but the discussion of weapons manufacture is specifically prohibited here. You may be wondering "what about the explosive synthesis or shaped charge discussions?," but those have industrial and scientific uses as well and nobody (to my knowledge) is posting here about how to build complete weapons from them. Likewise with the past discussions of chemical warfare agents; discussions that center on their use as weapons is prohibited though the fundamental chemistry and biology are fair topics for discussion.
