Mystery black goop from lead acetate synth
I been making Lead acetate from my concentrated Acetic acid and 35% Hydrogen peroxide using old battery terminal, this will usually be an Antimony
Lead alloy.
At first I thought it may be un reacted lead, so to test I added it to a small amount of fresh Acetic Acid and Peroxide, and nothing happened, upon
heating I got some white oxides to form but nothing much else.
I suspected the black goo would be the Antimony but every thing says its acetate / oxide should be white.
This (The Lead Acetate) will be used for making my Lead Styphnate.
That Synth went wonderfully!

Carbon?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lead%E2%80%93acid_battery#Plat...
Read 4-5 paragraphs down where it says this:
Quote: |
Modern-day paste contains carbon black, blanc fixe (barium sulfate) and lignosulfonate. The blanc fixe acts as a seed crystal for the lead–to–lead
sulfate reaction. The blanc fixe must be fully dispersed in the paste in order for it to be effective.

I'm not using the plates for that reason, this is the thing that clamps to the wire and the post, nothing internal to the battery.
- the screws and nuts obviously lol
