etylene gas and fruit
does anyone know any good online resources for learning about the chemistry behind plant growth/hormones/etc? This is something that has always
interested me though i never have looked into it much, so if anyone here knows any good PDF text books or other online resources it would be helpful,
thanks.

You could try google "ethylene" or "ethene" (Granted that google quite often lets you know how to spell thigs too)

Nice site!
Not only does it give the ethylene sensitivity of many many fruits, but also the biochemical pathway (roughly).
I remember from undergrad lectures that ethylene is rare as a hormone being in the gaseous state!
The only other one i know is nitric oxide, NO, which we all have in our bodies (nice, huh? Nature couldnt have chosen a more toxic molecule...), and
which involves many signalling pathways... including having physiological effects (beyond the cellular level) , i.e. vascular, inflammation etc...

That is correct, but...

Pronunciation verb, -sied, -sy·ing.
–verb (used with object) 1. to foretell or predict.
2. to indicate beforehand.
3. to declare or foretell by or as if by divine inspiration.
4. to utter in prophecy or as a prophet.
–verb (used without object) 5. to make predictions.
6. to make inspired declarations of what is to come.
7. to speak as a mediator between God and humankind or in God's stead.
8. Archaic. to teach religious subjects.
Which is how the oracle afforded ramen (it--we think she--was a prophet, after all), but,
I was thinking more of an overall shift in thinking on part of the listener, in which case, the original word would be sound...
Perhapse "prophsylytizing" would be a useful entity (hey, two "y's" in one word. Ha!

On the contrary, ethylene production has proven to be involved in the onset of programmed cell death in many pathways, including plant-pathogen
defence interactions and assisting developmental related PCD...
