Aqua Regia question

I would like to dissolve some Pd metal in aqua regia. My question is how much acid should I use?

My theory is to use 3-4x molar excess of nitric acid and 3x the volume of hydrochloric acid. Hopefully this is enough to dissolve the resulting tetrachloropalladic acid.

You can find directions in Brauer, Handbook of Preparative Inorganic Chemistry.
I spent several years looking for a copy I could afford, you can DL yours from the library
here @ Sciencemadness.

Brings upon my mind ....

I first read 'bout this in Iindustrial and Engineering Chemistry.

Dr. E. Wiener's Intelligent Work for United States Bureau of Standards Clears Up Mystery of Sponge Platinum Recovered in New York—Was Stolen from Old Hickory Powder Plant in Tennessee The U. S. Bureau of Standards, as well as industrial plants and universities, have been much hampered by the losses of platinum, worth intrinsically four times its weight in gold, to say nothing of its importance in scientific work. Robert E. Carter and Joseph Fredericks, who were arrested last April while attempting to dispose of 280 troy ounces of platinum "sponge,'' the porous state of the metal, had left small lots with two different firms who, having circulars concerning various thefts, notified the authorities. The remainder of the sponge was found in two rubber hot waiter bottles, which the accused men had been carrying in a satchel......

THE WHITE GOLD PIRATE
By MERLIN MOORE TAYLOR Truth Is Stranger Than Fiction. This Story Is a Pleasing Mixture of Both.

ROBERT GOODWIN, scientist, inventor and head of the great Chicago laboratories and experimental plant which bore his name, glared at the telephone on his desk. The ringing of its bell had interrupted him in the mental solution of a problem and it irritated him. In no pleasant frame of mind he took down the receiver and growled "hello."

"Are you in the market for platinum ?" inquired a man's voice without preliminaries..........

Brauer has some things about palladium, but not what I'm looking for. I could always just do the experiment and add extra acid if it doesn't work.

You must have quite the library

Ahhhh.... Hexachloroplantic (IV) acid H2PtCl6-H2O.

Obtained by dissolving platinum in aqua regia.........

Synonyms: Chloroplatinic acid, platinum chloride, platinic chloride

P. 1569

There is a direct relationship between my growing library
and my shrinking exchequer. If Google.com/books
had started some years back I would be driving
a better car now. Assuming I didn't spend all my money
on toner for la printer!

If I have seen further….
it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.
