chemical drying
A protocol calls for dry dichloromethane, I was wondering if that means just purging it with N2, or does it call for a wash with calcium chloride.
Thanks

A dry solvent most often implies that it is chemically dried before use. Calcium chloride is suitable for dichloromethane. Alkali metals are NOT.

Storing over molecular seives or passing through activated alumina are the easiest & most effective ways to dry most solvents - DCM included.
