Maybe because you used 0.1 M solution? It's not like 0.1 M solutions are famous for their vigorous reactions...

As Endimion17 states, the concentration of the solution is way too low to have any vigorous reaction. Try to make a saturated solution of CuCl2 in
water and add some aluminium foil to that. Another option is to make a saturated solution of a mix of table salt and copper sulfate and add some
aluminum foil to that.
If you have 10% hydrochloric acid and you add aluminium foil to that, then there initially is no reaction at all, but after some time there will be a
nice smooth reaction in which H2-gas is produced. Then repeat the experiment with 10% HCl to which quite a lot of CuCl2 or CuSO4 is added. In the
latter case, be careful when adding the aluminium foil!
