Tried. Got similar threads as this, with no suggestions whatsoever on cleaving MTBE. Any search terms I might be missing?
As for the persulfate bath, that seems a little tricky. There would probably still be some unreacted MTBE in the mix from vapor, but this could be
removed by simple distillation.

Idea!
Drip persulfate into a very cold solution of pure MTBE. Tert-butanol will freeze out.
