Perkin Elmer 8500.
Anyone here worked with one?
(I'm using a HP right now and would like to know if there is any difference beyond brand loyalty. Non one out her that I know of uses anything other
than an HP and they are all telling me to run away from any PE units)

Errr... Perkin Elmer fluorimeter? They are usually very good. Personal experience .
PE specialises in such things, HP does not. I'd rather go with the specialised company. Our HP UV spec sucks for instance. Bad open design and all and
yet a Peltier cooler/heater...incredible considering the open design.

The lab I work in uses both HP and PE GC kit. IIRC it was a PE instrument they bought most recently. They both seem to work very well (I spend most of
my time doing HPLC so I can't make much comment based on my experience)

Due to Time Warner buying out Comcast.net I had to re-register.
Anyhow where I now due to a fit of compulsive bidding is
Now I have the main body of a PE 8500 GC which powers up and sucks electricity like a champ.
I need a ebay watch list of equipment and software that work with this particular unit.
Software (will chemstation work? I might be able to beg a copy of that)
Integrator (will a HP3396 will work? Got one of those and haven't gotten around to flipping it on ebay.)
Auto sampler, controller, parts lists, repair guileinesany applicable manuals, parts numbers for FID, ICP MS any and all parts that might come in
handy when I get bored with doing one analysis and convert the unit to another.
I'm good on the gas, regulaters and moisture traps since they are fairly universal regardless of the brand.
Tips on other brands that can crossover and speak with this piece would work also

Five,
Make use of the analog-outs!
If you are primarily intersted in data acquisition (that is, the programmable control/knobs on the front (and a start/run button) are sufficient for
control, I would recommend that you acquire an A/D box. I have found that the old dionex ACI's are pretty good (with Peaknet software). Barring this,
units like this might also me made to work with old Nelson boxes (PE/Analytical Automations, Inc.), but the old DOS software might be a problem with
more modern computers.
If you get an ACI, let me know.
Cheers,
O3
