alcohol ---> azide
I did this ones with a primary alcohol, but what do you exacly mean with azidocellulose? Just the alcohol-groups of cellulose swapt with azide-groups?
Because that can be done with diphenylphosphoryl azide and a base. But diphenylphosphoryl azide isn't OTC and more important there aren't many solvent
for cellulose that wont interfere. But maby there are easier ways I don't know of.

One would think it could be done by reacting an alcohol, or a glycol or sugar or cellulose having -OH groups, with HN3 (hydrazoic acid - very
poisonous and explosive), with a small amount of a strong acid like dilute H2SO4 as a catalyst.

Or you coculd use a transition metal azide and a halogenated hydrocarbon.

Why not trying the same trick like this cool guy (don't remember the name) with his ethyl perchlorate. Take some diethyl/dimethyl sulfate and add some
Ba(N3)2 and watch the BaSO4 to fall out. This should give a better yield thana metal azide + halogenated hyrocarbon.

Cellulosesulfate
Has anybody an idea of how to make cellulosesulfate? And in what solvent would that be sollutable together with Ba(N3)2?

There's azidodeoxycellulose, claimed to be useful in propellants.
