Aluminum and potassium chloride

What is the reason potassium chloride is used as flux for aluminum casting? What products does it make?

A ternary mixture of KCl, NaCl and KF may be used as a molten flux cover during melting of aluminum scrap. This practice minimizes oxidation of the liquid metal, and allows the existing oxide layer to be stripped from the scrap more readily

I highly doubt. I make potassium tetraborate that I use to braze steel, copper and copper alloys with. Have the potassium ion cuts why back on the glare and I can actually SEE the molten weld puddle.

Every flux formulation for aluminum and alloys that I’ve seen is halide based and usually contains lithium chloride and fluoride compounds.
