Sorry for the downtime

I think that the forum has been behaving badly because the database filesystem was nearly full. I had earlier thought that maybe the database tables just needed to be repaired and optimized, so I kicked off a scripted process to repair and optimize all of them yesterday. I believe this was the source of downtime, because the process got stuck on the attachments table (many gigabytes of binary data) when it did not have enough working space left on the disk. I only noticed the stuck process this morning and considered the lack of disk space at that point.

I freed up disk space, temporarily shut down the web server altogether, and repaired/optimized the attachments table successfully. I have some hopes that this will fix the intermittent posting errors users have been experiencing, but I'm not sure.

Glad to see it back up and kicking but always feel as if we're on borrowed time with this old message board software.

Yeah I've often wondered if it would eventually quit running. This old style has grown on me over the years and I love it though. Pure, clean and simple.

With no distractions.

I’m glad to see the forum is back up. Thanks to you Polverone for all your time and energy keeping things running. I’m a member of another forum for old Dodge trucks, and that forum has been offline for over a week, finally coming back up this morning. When I saw SciMad down all I could think of was Oh no, not another one. But both of my favorite haunts are back up and running.

You can’t claim you drank all day if you didn’t start early in the morning.

Yeah i was worrying too, dont want to come here with a website seized warning.

Do we have any backup of the website in case it ever get taken down? soo many great info in here would not want to lose this.

Also about old website, sometime when they update stuff like PHP they will remove/rename functions and some website stop working, its a pita, admin have to manually edit the site code to use the new function.(i had to do that back in the day).

Also, usually, its possible to import/port the database to a newer forum version.
I had a website that ran under phpnuke, and many years later i took the forum back online with just phpbb board. Kept all account/posts, so its doable.

It would be nice if it was updated.
