Ion exchange resin -> membrane

Is it possible to use ion exchange resin as ion exchange membrane? I want to use it in electrolysis cell but they aren't cheap. However the resin is more easily available. They have different applications but the material are the same, aren't they?

Ion exchange membranes dont have to be so expensive, there are many different ones and some are not that expensive.

Thanks!
I wasn’t able to find that thread.
But I will look for cheap sources first.
