Where to purchase a C60 sample (Buckminsterfullerene)
I was hoping to get my hands on some C60 (and maybe even C70 if possible), but oddly enough I can't find anyone selling even a sample of it on Ebay or
Amazon. If I search for C60 or buckminsterfullerene then the results always include some stupid extra virgin olive oil product.. which is definitely not what im looking for, lol.
It's just for my element collection, but if I can get enough of it (for an affordable price) then perhaps I can try some chemistry with it as well.
Does anyone have a source for this?
P.S. How would one verify that the C60 is actually C60? Is there any type of crude qualitative analysis that could be done?

Metalium has ampules of fullerenes for sale. Not cheap, $80 for 0.2 grams. I have one such ampule for my element collection, but I have not done any
experiments with it.

Oh boy, that's quite expensive. I just looked on Alibaba and found this listing which sells it for $50.00 per 1g, and even that seems expensive. Plus I'm not sure how much I trust buying it from someone on
Alibaba.
As for the testing, it looks like that could potentially be as simple as dissolving it in toluene or some other organic solvent and checking the
color.

Bell Jar - Never heard of this before, very neat.
The reaction/apparatus it mentions is pretty in line with what I've been looking into. It looks very fun to do, though high voltage scares the shit
out of me, but isolating the C60 and C70 via chromotography looks fun.
Thanks for sharing this.
