Acylal and "ketylal" properties


Can anyone link any literature regarding the synthesis and reactivity of "Acylals" and "Ketylals" (geminal diesters/dicarboxylates)? They seem like they would be useful reagents but I can find very little information on acylals (aldehyde derivatives) and no information on "ketylals" (ketone derivatives).
